About the Novel:
Trudchen grew up hearing Odette’s stories of their monster-slaying mother and a magician’s curse. But now that Tru’s older, she’s starting to wonder if her older sister’s tales were just comforting lies, especially because there’s nothing fantastic about her own life—permanently disabled and in constant pain from childhood polio.
In 1909, after a two-year absence, Od reappears with a suitcase supposedly full of weapons and a promise to rescue Tru from the monsters on their way to attack her. But it’s Od who seems haunted by something. And when the sisters’ search for their mother leads them to a face-off with the Leeds Devil, a nightmarish beast that’s wreaking havoc in the Mid-Atlantic states, Tru discovers the peculiar possibility that she and her sister—despite their dark pasts and ordinary appearances—might, indeed, have magic after all.
About the Cover:
This absolutely stunning design was created by an entire team of amazing talents, including Alyssa Nassner, the cover designer, and Brazilian artist Nathalia Suellen, who's known for such mystical covers as those of A.G. Howard's Splintered series. I adore the Tim Burtonesque vibe, and those girls representing Trudchen and Odette are so badass. I love it!

I really do love this sinister sibling duo on the cover!
Such a beautiful cover, Cat!
Wow, I love it! Different from what I thought it would look like, in a good way.
The only monsters that scared me when I was a kid were the human kind. I've always thought that humans capable of evil are far more frightening than any monster.
This cover is STUNNING. And I'm such a sucker for sister relationships (having two I love very much myself). Just pre-ordered!! I'm leaving for a long hike in about a month and should be getting back September/October. This will be such a treat to come home to.
BEAUTIFUL cover! I really can't wait to get my hands on it.
Oh, I love!! The cover is definitely eye-catching.
Oohh this cover is SO gorgeous! I loooove the vibe it is giving off! I cannot WAIT to read it!!!
I don't think we had any local scary legends, but there were some local crime stories that always managed to scare me!
The Cover is beautifully haunting! Can't wait to read!
Fantastic cover! You hooked me based on the image alone, but that description... The Leed's Devil? I'm so ready for our homegrown, Jersey spook to get the recognition it deserves. It can get really lonely here in the Pines, even when you're the thirteenth child.
So ready to be scared! Can't wait to read it and share it with my students - just in time for Halloween too. Perfect!
Lovely. I'm so ready for this!
Sadly no local legends in my area. But the cover is stunning and the synopsis sounds great! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love that you shared the connection with your own childhood and sisterhood! My own sister is one of my closest friends and is very dear to me. We also share a love of reading that has added magic to our lives when things got hard growing up. No one can make me laugh as often, or easily as her and we've always been absolutely certain that the other deserves the absolute best.
As for your cover, the more I look at it, the more I like it. It's layered and lovely. The look in Od and Tru's eyes is genuinely fearsome and badass. The brushstroke font is eye-catching. The moon, the colors and the shadowy background are subtlety haunting. It reminds me of your first cover in the best way. :)
This story sounded fantastic but that cover makes it even more so! Adore the font choice!! Can't wait for this one. :)
I can't wait for this, Cat!!!!
I grew up in a house full of antique dolls, so the urban legend that always freaked me out the most was the one where the china doll comes to life in the moonlight. D:
There is a place in the woods nearby that was nicknamed "Devil's Playground". When I was in high school, some kids used to go there to drink and hang out since it was a secluded spot. One night I went with a group of friends and as soon as I got out of the car there was a horrible smell. It was rumored that this place was used for animal sacrifice but I didn't know that until after my visit.
Fabulous cover as usual, Cat! And I love the book's premise. Bravo, and can't wait to read :)
Beautiful cover! I can't wait to read this!
I grew up wth bogeyman. Used to scare me but now all I do is watch any horror movie I can find.
Btw congrats on your new book. Can't wait to read. Love the cover❤️
So excited and great cover. I'm glad this one also takes place in my favorite time period to read about.
Although there are not a lot of local ghosts stories where I live when there should be. I live close to the site of a massacre that took place during the American Revolution. Some say an old inne is haunted by a blacksmith who was tortured there. While I always feel uneasy walking around at night, no ghosts. It'd be terrified to be haunted by one. As if that was not bad enough, a mass murder took place close to the same location where men murdered a group of Irish railway workers. I find it unsettling that there are no ghost stories surrounding all the bad that happened.
